I hand-carved this Luffy artwork into MDF and printed it using Flint water-based block ink. The design is inspired by the bold, graphic look of traditional tattoo flash, with the carving giving the artwork a physical texture that you don't get from a standard print.

Luffy has become one of the most recognisable characters in anime and manga, and there’s a lot to like about putting that character into a piece of handmade artwork rather than just buying another piece of licensed merchandise.

The artwork is finished with an upcycled op-shop frame, adding a bit of age and character around the carved print. The worn frame works well with the handmade feel of the artwork and keeps the whole thing away from looking too polished or mass-produced.

My work is influenced by traditional tattoo wood carving, old-school tattoo flash, and handmade printmaking. I keep the carving and printing process visible, so the finished artwork still feels like something made by hand rather than something produced entirely on a screen.
